The title of capital of culture is awarded by the European Union. The aim is to show the diversity of the cultural heritage and to highlight commonalities. With its outstanding rooftop landscape, the Graz old town contributes to the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site, which includes the Eggenberg Palace. Futuristic architecture, such as the Graz Art Museum or the Murinsel, blend harmoniously with the medieval houses and together show that Graz is a capital of culture, with all its heart.
It quickly becomes clear when strolling through the inner city to see why Graz can be called a City of Design. Special pieces and souvenirs in original shops can be discovered in the Lendviertel or Jakominiviertel, but at design markets and festivals you can also find cool modern design pieces, which fit practically into any stylish home. In addition to the hip shops, casual eateries with creative interior design and new regional drinks grace the old town.
